FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ’s) ABOUT LEASING/DRIVING A TAXI
Disclaimer: The relationship of a person choosing to lease a vehicle offered by Lease Services for use as a taxicab is strictly that of Lessee – Lessor. The information contained in this document is provided for general information purposes only and under no circumstance shall Lease Services have any liability resulting from the use of any of the information provided.
WHAT ARE THE CRITERIA TO LEASE A TAXI?
The taxicab fleet is managed by a group known as “Lease Services” and requires lessees to be approved by their vehicle insurance company to drive. The minimum age requirement is 23. Applicants must have at least 2 years of driving experience in the U.S. and be approved to drive by the insurance carrier of Lease Services. If you have not held a license in Wisconsin for at least 2 years you will need to obtain a copy of your Motor Vehicle Record from the previous state in which you held a Driver’s License to submit with your application. Lease Services is not able to obtain MVRs from any state other than Wisconsin. Once information is submitted to insurance a decision is provided in approx. 3-4 business days.
WHAT SKILLS ARE NEEDED TO LEASE/DRIVE A TAXI?
Drivers should be available via cell phone during working hours and should possess general computer use knowledge and be able to use GPS. General directional knowledge of the area in which a lessee chooses to service is a plus along with the ability to drive defensively in all weather conditions.
HOW DO I APPLY TO LEASE A TAXI?
Interested individuals may apply on-line or in person using a company computer at the Lease Services business office during weekday business hours.
WHERE IS LEASE SERVICES LOCATED?
Lease Services is located at 646 S. 2nd Street, Suite 500, Milwaukee, WI 53204 and office hours for applications are Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 3pm. (Closed on Holidays and Weekends)
WHAT DO I NEED TO APPLY TO LEASE A TAXI?
While on-line sign up is the quickest and preferred method, all applicants need to submit a valid State of Wisconsin Driver’s License along with a current copy (no more than 10 days old) of their Wisconsin MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) or you may pay an $8 fee to Lease Services (no checks accepted) if you apply in person and they will obtain the MVR for you the same day. For applicants that apply online and choose to obtain their own MVR remember to email both your DL and MVR copies to Lease Services to proceed with processing your application.
HOW CAN I OBTAIN A COPY OF MY WISCONSIN MOTOR VEHICLE DRIVING RECORD (MVR)?
Fees for obtaining an MVR are the responsibility of the applicant and are not able to be refunded once the report has been requested. Click here to obtain MVR on your own or Click here to have Lease Services obtain MVR for you.
WHAT ARE THE NEXT STEPS IF I AM APPROVED TO LEASE A TAXI?
As a lessee of a taxi vehicle, you will also need to sign up and become an approved driver with our approved partner company that provides contracted passenger transportation and/or package delivery services. To begin the Driver Sign Up process click here
Once approval is secured by an approved partnering company, lessees are required to pay a partial security deposit of $200 for the vehicle and then Lease Services will set up a ride along followed by a road test. A short Orientation on procedures will be scheduled with a Lease Services Representative and a vehicle will be assigned to get you on the road.
WHAT ARE THE LEASE OPTIONS FOR A TAXI?
The vehicles are available for lease during the following shifts:
Day Shift (6am – 6pm) / Night shift (6pm – 6am) these vehicles must be picked up and dropped off with a full tank of fuel at a designated parking lot every day near the Lease Services Office. There is also an option to lease the vehicle 24/7 and keep it at your home allowing you the most flexibility to drive anytime you want.
Requests for customized lease options are based on vehicle availability and require review and approval by Lease Services Management.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO LEASE A TAXI?
Lease fees vary by shift. There also is a Security Deposit collected in addition to the lease payment that is fully refundable when a lease is terminated - less any outstanding charges. Rate packages are available based on the shift option a lessee chooses to drive. A Lease Services Representative can provide more information on how the program works.
WHAT DOES THE LEASE FEE FOR A TAXI INCLUDE?
Lease Services carries the auto liability insurance on the vehicle. They also contract with a facility to provide all of the maintenance for the vehicle. Lease Services will also provide spare vehicles to use for breakdowns and periods of necessary maintenance.
